allow is defined as: 1) to give permission for; permit; 2) to let have; 3) to admit; acknowledge; concede
last night i was grooving to mario’s classic let me love you and i wondered, do i allow? allow help, love, kindness, etc. as a natural giver it’s definitely something i offer – a hand of help, an ear of comfort, a heart, i hope, of goodness. but can i accept it when it’s presented? yes, it requires discernment, but when genuine allowance or opportunity or growth is presented, i can definitely allow a little more.
on page 50 of my book, for boys who love, my short poem t&b reads:
you are
what love is
when allowed
yes, love – giving and receiving – is allowance. so are most new things. it’s a letting. a wanting. it’s often, even an answered prayer. it does, however demand loads and levels of letting go and openness. and in that, we should ask ourselves do we trust ourselves enough to trust others? do we trust the unknown? when i find myself in these situations, i’m reminded to check my faith. and also realize, the same giving heart i have, beats in others and they’re ready, wanting to share. i, we, should let the ‘right ones’ love us, help us, shape us, inspire us. my favorite coach, pat summitt, said, “you win in life with people.” let people – even advancement, new challenges, love – do what they do best…help you be your best. i pray you trust yourself enough to allow something good today. if you need a little help, click here.
